Open-World Resident Evil 9 Has Been Internally Delayed; Another Entry in the Series May Launch Before It

Resident Evil 9, the next entry in the CAPCOM survival horror series rumored to sport open-world features, has apparently been delayed internally and may skip its 2025 release window.

Speaking on The Snitch's Discord server, the well-known insider reported that they had heard murmurs over the last few months that the ninth entry in the series may have been delayed internally for unspecified reasons and may no longer aim for a 2025 release. While this may sound bad, the insider remarked how this isn't particularly worrying, as internal delays aren't unusual for the series. Although the insider couldn't confirm it, it has been suggested another entry in the series may get announced and released before Resident Evil 9. Given how CAPCOM has consistently released remakes of past entries in the franchise these past few years, this game could be another remake. If the Japanese publisher doesn't go back to remaking the first entry in the series, the next games to be remade are Code Veronica and Resident Evil 5.

After releasing the latest mainline entry in the series, CAPCOM released the Resident Evil 4 remake last year. While faithful and extremely solid, Nathan felt more could have been done with the remake, as he highlighted in his review.

Resident Evil 4 was the ultimate test of CAPCOM remake skills, and unfortunately, they buckled a bit under the pressure. The game suffers from minor mechanical issues and doesn’t reinvent or elevate the original material as boldly as some might have hoped it would. That said, CAPCOM hasn’t broken anything either as this is still a fun, inventive thrill ride that has been brought up to modern technical standards in striking fashion. The new Resident Evil 4 is well worth it for fans of the series, just keep your hopes slightly in check and you won’t be spin-kicked by inflated expectations.
