Minecraft is dropping PlayStation VR support next year

Mojang has announced plans to drop PlayStation VR support for Minecraft in early 2025.

PlayStation VR support was added to the PS4 version of the game via a free update in September 2020.

“Our ability to support PlayStation VR has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025,” Mojang said.

“After you receive the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation and be able to play without PlayStation VR.

“From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available.

“You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.”

Mojang is currently developing a native version of Minecraft for PS5.

It launched the first preview of the PS5 version in June, allowing owners of the PS4 version to test it and provide feedback ahead of its launch for Sony’s current-gen console.

The studio hasn’t announced a launch window for the PS5 version, or any plans to support PlayStation VR2.

Mojang said last week that it’s planning to release more regular content drops for Minecraft going forward.

“We know that you want new Minecraft content more often, which is why we’re changing our feature development rhythm,” it said.

“Instead of providing one free update during the summer, as we’ve done in the past, we’ll now be releasing a number of free game drops throughout the year.

“These game drops will vary in size and will bring you features to explore more frequently.”
