Resident Evil 2 Remake Looks Glorious With Path Tracing, Making The Performance Hit Almost Bearable

The Resident Evil 2 remake, alongside other entries in the series powered by the RE Engine, recently received a path tracing mod, which greatly improves the visuals in certain scenarios. So much so to make the considerable performance hit almost bearable.

In a new video shared on YouTube, MxBenchmarkPC showcased how the remake of the second entry in the series by CAPCOM is improved by modded path tracing. The biggest improvements introduced by the mod are path-traced shadows followed by global illumination improvements, which are less noticeable due to the game's visual design. Even without denoising, the end results look quite good and could definitely be a good trade-off for performance for some players.

The Resident Evil 2 remake is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can learn more about the game by checking out Nathan's review, who found the remake maybe a little too faithful to the original.

Resident Evil 2 is a polished, respectful remake of a survival horror classic that probably would have benefited from a slightly more daring approach. Hints of a braver revamp are sprinkled throughout, but it doesn’t take the risks necessary to join the canon of truly great video game remakes. Make no mistake, though, if you loved the original Resident Evil 2, you’ll likely love the remake, and new players who can tolerate a few old-school quirks ought to have a gruesome good time as well.
