Persona, Like a Dragon and Sonic the Hedgehog Are Planned to Be Annual Franchises – Rumor

SEGA is planning to make the Persona, Like a Dragon, and Sonic the Hedgehog annual franchises, according to a well-known insider.

Speaking on X/Twitter, Midori, who proved to be extremely reliable regarding SEGA leaks, revealed how the Japanese company is planning to make the three franchises above annual, with the release of new titles, remakes and remasters, DLC expansions, and other media. Speaking about the Persona series, the leaker said that this doesn't mean there will be numbered entries in the series every eye, as spin-off titles are also counted as new titles. Additionally, quality shouldn't suffer from yearly releases, as multiple titles are developed at the same time across multiple years. The current stage, which includes Persona 3 Reload, P5 Tactica, the mobile game P5X, and the sixth main entry in the series, began development in 2019.

Seeing how all three franchises have seen multiple releases these past few years, it isn't surprising to see them becoming SEGA's core franchises. What's interesting is to see franchises that were once considered niche like Persona and Like a Dragon becoming so successful to become the Main Pillar Brands as SEGA, alongside the instantly recognizable franchise that is Sonic the Hedgehog.

The next entry in the ATLUS series, Persona 6, has yet to be officially revealed. The game should feature two main characters and tons of customization DLC. The game will also not be a PlayStation exclusive, although there could be some sort of timed exclusivity, as the game is apparently not releasing day and date on Xbox consoles.

The latest entry in the series is Persona 3 Reload, the remake of the third entry in the series. You can learn more about it by checking out Chris' review.
