World of Warcraft Fans Notice Bizarre Detail About Renown Farming in Plunderstorm

Now that Plunderstorm has been live in World of Warcraft for more than a day, fans have noticed the best way to earn rewards from it is to avoid the PvP aspect of the battle royale mode entirely. Though many World of Warcraft players have enjoyed their time in Plunderstorm so far, this strange detail has left many scratching their heads.

Plunderstorm is a new limited-time World of Warcraft game mode introduced in Patch 10.2.6. This pirate-themed battle royale pits 60 players against one another as they scour the Arathi Highlands for Plunder, which is translated into reputation on their Renown track to unlock cosmetic rewards in both retail and Classic WoW.

However, one detail about the Plunderstorm Renown unlock process doesn’t make sense to some fans. Wowhead compiled all the Plunder sources in WoW's new game mode and found the most effective way to earn Plunder is by completing the daily quest, match quests, and roaming the map seeking opening chests and defeating NPCs. Very little additional Plunder is earned from defeating players, meaning PvP is high-risk, but little reward. Considering the purpose of the game mode, many fans think this is the opposite of what should be the case.

Right now, dropping in, finishing the daily quest, and dying takes a few minutes, but earns about 300 Plunder. On the converse, players can spend 10–15 minutes trying to win a match, only to come out with less than 500 Plunder. Unless World of Warcraft adds additional Plunder incentives for coming in first place, like other battle royales like Fortnite do, Plunderstorm essentially penalizes those who actually try to win the game.

The World of Warcraft rewards from Plunderstorm are of exceptional quality, so it is no wonder fans are hoping to obtain all of them. However, players need to gather 100,000 Plunder to earn everything, and the game mode is only expected to be live for about six weeks, with no word on if it will return in the future.
