Sony has set up a production line in Brazil to make physical PS5 discs for Latin America

Sony has set up a new production line in Brazil, where it will manufacture physical PlayStation 5 game discs.

Production will take place at Sony’s “state of the art” facility in the Manaus Free Trade Zone in Northern Brazil, a free import and export trade area where fiscal incentives apply.

The facility was previously built by Sony in collaboration with multinational entertainment, electronics and accessories company Solutions 2 GO, and produces games on discs which are distributed throughout Brazil and other Latin American countries.

Until now, the facility could only produce physical media for other PlayStation consoles, but it has now been adapted to support PS5 games up to 100GB in size, such as God of War Ragnarök.

“Here at Sony Interactive Entertainment, we appreciate the support that our Brazilian community has given to the PlayStation brand and our products,” said Miguel Cunha, senior director of PlayStation Latin America.

“We are excited to share the news that, from now on, PlayStation 5 physical discs of our exclusive and third-party games will be produced in Brazil.”

He added: “To ensure maximum efficiency in the production process, a team of experts from Sony Interactive Japan spent weeks in Brazil working on installation, programming and training local staff. The initiative reinforces the commitment to Brazil and the Brazilian community.”

The commitment to produce physical games for Latin America will be seen as another boon for game preservation, especially given that the Digital Edition of Sony’s redesigned ‘PS5 Slim’ now has the ability to attach a disc drive.
