Apple Has The Capability To Develop A Robot That Can Perform Household Tasks, But A Report Says That ‘Such Advances Are Probably A Decade Away’

Apple has plans to jump into the robotics category, with an earlier report stating that the company’s engineers are exploring a machine that can move around a person’s home and perform daily tasks such as washing dishes. While the technology giant can form grand plans on how it will enter a certain market, it is not necessary that it arrives early, and assuming that it does, immediate success is not guaranteed. In the latest report, people familiar with the matter said that the firm could get into a new section, but it would take years to commercialize a product.

Apple’s main priority might revolve around making ‘incremental improvements’ to its current product lineup

Even after the failed ‘Project Titan’ self-driving car venture, Apple’s ambitions have not faded. In fact, the company has certain team members from hardware engineering and AI working on top-secret products, with one of them possibly being the development of an intelligent machine that can carry out a series of tasks. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has stated the following in his ‘Power On’ newsletter, highlighting that while Apple can dive into making such a product, it is likely years away.

If Apple has a few team members from different divisions working on a mobile robot, then it is likely that the company is yet to be ‘all in’ on this endeavor. This might be why Gurman mentions that the California-based titan’s current priority is bringing incremental updates to its current lineup. Side-by-side, Apple is likely focused on bringing new innovations to its major revenue generator, the iPhone, to maintain its dominant position in the market.
