You can tell the new Heroes of Might and Magic game is meant to be a throwback to when the series was good because they're not insisting we call it Might and Magic: Heroes this time

Beloved turn-based strategy series Heroes of Might and Magic suffered a renaming six games in, with the last two entries known officially as Might and Magic: Heroes 6 and 7 just to mess with the order of your library. Publishers Ubisoft have relented though, and gone back to the HoMM naming convention for the next in the series, the recently announced prequel Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.

Games Workshop officially bans the use of AI in its Golden Demon painting competitions

The Oscars of painting little guys are the Golden Demon awards, handed out by Games Workshop at official miniature painting competitions. The entry guidelines for the 2024 Golden Demon awards contain a note in the FAQ section that wasn't present in the previous year's guidelines. In answer to the question, «Am I allowed to use Artificial Intelligence to generate any part of my entry?» it simply replies, «No.»

'Don't get lacerated!' is a bullet-point feature in limb-lopping survival horror game The Lacerator

DreadXP has announced it's publishing a new horror game from Brazilian Studio Games From the Abyss called The Lacerator, and it's a wilfully old school survival horror experience. As the mature content description on its Steam page warns, «This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore, also contains sensitive themes and tank controls».

The FDA just cleared 'Traumagel,' a wound-treating gel with 'the color and texture of hummus' that sounds like a real-life FPS medkit

As reported by Fast Company, last Wednesday the FDA gave medical device clearance to a product called Traumagel that's designed to prevent bleeding and is basically a real-life version of Halo's Biofoam. Only instead of coming in a camo-green cylindrical canister, it comes in a stimpak-looking plastic dispenser, «a 30-ml syringe of an algae- and fungi-based hemostatic gel that's the color and texture of hummus.»

Total War: Warhammer 3's dwarfs will be able to turtle properly in the next update, and the other reworks seem decent too

Creative Assembly's 17-minute chat about «What's next?» for Total War: Warhammer 3 in June explained that updates between DLC for its blend of grubby fantasy and grand strategy would be more substantial, and we're seeing that now with a dev blog for the 5.2 update. Dwarfs are getting a new feature, Chaos Cults are being reworked, Cathay's Ivory Roads are being updated, and a «mini feature» called Unusual Locations is being added, all of which sound pretty neat.

You can play the original and best version of Diablo in your browser (again)

Browser Diablo has been a thing for a while now, and we wrote about a previous incarnation back in 2019. That version is unfortunately offline these days, but another one has taken over my browser like someone jammed a soulstone into its forehead. Diablo's source code, as reconstructed by GalaXyHaXz and the devilution team, has been ported to WebAssembly and lives again via Github.

Skyblivion shows off some gorgeous Oblivion locations and some boring Oblivion quests in its latest trailer

If things go according to schedule, we'll be playing Oblivion remade in Skyrim next year. The latest trailer for the Skyblivion project shows it looking pretty smooth (apart from one discolored face and a horse walking while going nowhere), highlighting two quests in and around the town of Chorrol. Chorrol itself looks lush and colorful, with some real pretty windmills on the outskirts and an impressive fountain outside the Mages Guild. Everything is so nice to look at that it makes the blandness of the actual quests in this quest showcase stand out.
