MultiVersus studio explains new Battle Pass, currencies and free rewards for returning players

The new monetisation and Battle Pass structure for MultiVersus has been revealed ahead of the game’s return next week.

In a new blog post detailing the changes in full, developer Player First Games explained that returning players will earn new in-game rewards.

Any one who played the game during its Open Beta period (between July 2022 and its closure in June 2023) will receive the Premium Battle Pass for free for Season 1, which includes the Jason Voorhees character, if they log into the game before June 11.

Open Beta players returning to the game at any point – even after this date – will also get a Snow Suit Finn character variant, a Rising Stars ringout and a Banana Guard announcer pack.

All players, new and reutrning, will get a seven-day reward calendar for completing the tutorial. If they complete all seven days they will be able to unlock the Banana Guard fighter from Adventure Time, as well as the Banana Guard variant.

The Battle Pass itself has more “high-value items” in both its free and premium tiers, including more ringouts, character skins, taunts and currency.

Players will also now be able to collect Gleamium, the game’s premium currency, through normal gameplay, including through both tiers of the Battle Pass.

Gleamium could previously only be obtained by spending real money, which frustrated players because some of the best character skins could only be bought with Gleamium (with some costing the equivalent of up to $15-20).

Now players will be able to collect Gleamium to earn these skins through normal gameplay, or save it to put towards the cost of the next Premium Battle Pass.

Players who still have Character Tokens and Battle Pass Tokens after buying the Founder’s Pack for the previous version of the game will still have these in their inventory, and will still be able to use them to unlock characters and Premium Battle Passes. There will be no more of these tokens once they’re gone, however.

The game will also have new currencies – Fighter currency (which
