iPhone 16 Series Rumored To Feature Slimmer Bezels Than The iPhone 15 By Using ‘Border Reduction Structure’ Technology

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max already impressed with their design, and Apple’s engineering feat of reducing the two flagships’ bezels down to just 1.55mm would be regarded as truly extraordinary, but the company reportedly wants to raise the bar with the iPhone 16 lineup too and incorporate displays with even slimmer bezels. It plans to accomplish this Herculean task using what the latest report calls ‘Border Reduction Structure’ technology, and we will discuss what it does and what its potential drawbacks can be.

‘Border Reduction Structure’ technology reduces the bezels of iPhone 16 models by rolling up the copper wiring at the bottom

While Apple was previously reported to have been exploring ‘low-injection pressure over-molding’ (LIPO) technology to reduce the bezels on its future products, Sisajournal-e has posted some valuable information on what direction the company might be taking. As spotted by the tipster Revegnus, this technology will reduce the area underneath by rolling the copper wires at the bottom. One unnamed official from the display industry has stated that previously, little to no efforts were being made to reduce the bezel at the bottom, likely due to overheating issues.

Now, with smartphone chipsets becoming more thermally efficient and with the improvement of the cooling solutions, it is possible that ‘Border Reduction Structure’ starts picking up steam. The official also said that companies do not believe that adopting this technology is a complex process, but that also does not explain why these smartphone makers do not employ it in their devices. It might be related to display cost increases since reducing bezels beyond a certain threshold requires more design and engineering resources.

We have reported that Apple is testing out a graphene thermal solution for the iPhone 16 series, and there was also a leak where the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery was allegedly
