Insider Claims "The Majority" Of Xbox Games Will Eventually Come To PS5

As Microsoft begins bringing some of its most popular games over to PlayStation 5, a new report claims that, ultimately,most Xbox games will be playable on other platforms. In early 2024, Microsoft shocked its user base by announcing that it was in the process of porting a handful of titles onto competing consoles, prompting a great deal of concern and backlash. It seems those complaints haven't changed how the company views its current strategy as it will reportedly maintain its plan.

According to GameIndustry.biz's Chris Dring, speaking on the GI Microcast (via Eurogamer), he understands that the "" of Xbox's line-up will eventually end up on competing consoles, be they Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 5.

The veteran reporter goes on to note that, based on what he's heard, hardware and software sales are down for Microsoft as many third-party developers begin questioning the need to develop for Xbox systems. Many insist their frustration comes down to the existence of the Series S console which forces them to effectively release two different versions of the same game entirely for Xbox's infrastructure.

Dring further elaborated that a major hurdle for Microsoft and Xbox is convincing developers that their platform is worth their time. Given that the company is actively looking to expand its users by casting a wider net and placing more emphasis on other platforms and services rather than advancing its hardware, many are hoping that the console itself isn't forgotten. This is a sentiment that's widely shared among the Xbox community as players are beginning to question why Microsoft would rather cater to users on other devices rather than those who bought a Series X|S in the first place.
