GameCube Fan Restores Custom Console That Looks Straight Out of Borderlands

A GameCube fan has restored a Borderlands-themed console that looks like it was ripped straight from the games. Nintendo officially released many GameCube variants like the Orange one and a Skies of Arcadia unit, but custom ones like this have cropped up over the years.

The GameCube was first released in 2001, but the sixth-generation console continues to accumulate fans today. Considered a retro console at this point, GameCubes can commonly be found in second-hand stores and online listings. With a library of over 600 titles, there are a plethora of games for GameCube owners to enjoy. Because of the time that has passed since its release, some consoles have had to be repaired and restored. One Nintendo fan has fixed a Borderlands-themed GameCube that stands out compared to the standard units.

Reddit user YaMilkaMan recently shared an image of their Borderlands-themed GameCube. According to the gamer, they claimed the console as it was about to be thrown away. It had apparently been used as an ashtray, with the new owner stating that they found cigarette butts inside it. The GameCube is a bright neon green with thick black lines on each edge that emphasize its cel-shaded nature. These black lines are also applied to the memory card and GameCube controller ports, the corresponding controller indicators, and the inside of the disc tray. While the console has a Super Smash Bros. Melee disc inserted, it remains unclear if it's playable or not.

While this GameCube has been compared to Borderlands based on its unique colors, the console also offered a few cel-shaded games. Legend of Zelda fans may be aware that the Wind Waker kicked off the cel-shaded visuals also featured in titles like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Beyond this, the GameCube also received Bomberman Generation, Cel Damage, Killer 7, and more. While the art style was in its infancy on this generation of consoles, it has blown up in popularity largely thanks to the Borderlands series. Cel-shaded
