Epic Games Store, including Fortnite, launches on iOS in the EU and Android worldwide

The Epic Games Store is launching today on mobile. The store will be available on iOS in the EU, and worldwide on Android.

The store will launch with three games – Fortnite, Fall Guys Mobile and Rocket League Sidewipe. Fall Guys will feature cross-platform play and progression with the PC and console versions of the game.

Speaking to Game File, Epic boss Tim Sweeney said: “If we spent a billion dollars so far, that’s a small price to pay for the future freedom of our company and of all the others who want to participate in the market.”

All three games launching on the Epic Games Store today will also be available on AltStore, an independent mobile store that can also be accessed on iOS.

Speaking as part of a media briefing, Sweeney also said (via GamesIndustry.biz): “[Apple and Google] are going to great efforts to slow us down and tried to stop us several times, and the EC always stepped up and ensured that competitors were able to enter the market, which we’re now doing.”

While the store isn’t currently available on iOS in the UK, Steve Allison, general manager of the Epic Games Store said that he hopes to expand the store to all regions in the coming months.

“Over the next couple of years, hopefully we’ll be available worldwide on iOS,” he said. “And we’re continue to work with alternative stores worldwide that offer developers great terms.”
