Elden Ring Enemy Gives Up in Middle of Fight

An Elden Ring player has come across a rare moment in the game where an enemy stopped attacking and retreated mid-combat. Since FromSoftware’s soulsborne games are noted for their high level of difficulty, this occurrence is not only unusual but also uncharacteristic.

Back in 2022, Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s magnum opus, raided the award ceremonies as it won multiple game of the year awards. Since then, countless Tarnished have ventured across the Lands Between and defeated the toughest foes to become the Elden Lord. However, a player has shown that there might be a non-violent way to get past enemies in the game.

In a recent Reddit post, user Feeling-Lemon-9221 shared a unique moment that took place during in-game combat. The video shows an enemy attacking the player character, Elden Ring's Tarnished, with a throwable weapon, in the middle of a faceoff. Interestingly, when the player doesn’t respond to the attack at all, the enemy first walks up to the player before retreating to sit down and rest on the side as if nothing happened.

This intriguing and slightly comedic behavior of the enemy AI has gained the attention of the Elden Ring community. On the Reddit post, users have chimed in with different non-serious takes about the incident. One of them joked that the less-than-enthusiastic combat participation was down to the enemy’s meager wage. Others said that the enemy quit the fight after feeling sorry for throwing a projectile at the Tarnished. Another user said that the enemy thought “You… you ain't even worth it…” before leaving.

Even after two years since its release, Elden Ring continues to be one of the more popular RPGs out there. This is partly down to the sheer quality of the game which makes sure players stick with it even after multiple playthroughs. Although there’s a chance that the bored enemy in the Reddit post may just be the product of a bug, it still adds to player curiosity and encourages them to try recreating it in the game themselves.
