Destiny 2 Developer Abusers Get Perma-Banned by Bungie

Following a barrage of abuse hurled at an employee, Destiny 2 developer Bungie has permanently banned several accounts that were involved in the incident. What this means is that these perma-banned Destiny 2 players will no longer be able to use their existing Steam account to log in and will, hence, lose their in-game progress.

A few days ago, a Bungie dev became the target of toxic fans after their Steam username was accidentally exposed during a Destiny 2 livestream on Twitch. This stream took place as part of the buildup for the forthcoming Into The Light free update, which is scheduled for release on April 9. The developer in question received a flurry of disheartening abuse from Steam users who had changed their display names to offensive words. Apart from this, there were many toxic messages on Twitch chat as well.

As revealed on Reddit, Bungie has reacted quickly and cracked down on the toxic Destiny players that hijacked the Into The Light livestream. Precisely, the developer has issued these Steam accounts with a permanent ban from playing Destiny 2. This decision was shared by the game’s official Reddit account, Destiny2Team, in reply to a post addressing this incident. The main post complained about player toxicity in Destiny 2, highlighting the livestream as the latest example of the unfair harassment of devs from members of the community.

In the comments, several Destiny 2 players expressed approval of Bungie’s timely response. While showing appreciation for the move, a user said that they were looking forward to the next Into The Light livestream. Another user chipped in, saying that the ban was expected after the offenders “hand-delivered” their accounts to a developer’s inbox when they sent the latter friend requests.
