Old Destiny 3 Leak Legitimized By New Subclass
A Destiny 3 leak that surfaced in February was seemingly legitimized by Bungie's April 9 stream that previewed Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion. The Destiny 3 leak, which revealed new details regarding the unconfirmed game's development, mentioned Destiny 2's Prismatic subclass that wasn't announced until Bungie's recent stream.
In addition to the new subclass, Destiny 2:The Final Shape introduces new enemies, weapons, a raid, the Pale Heart destination, and more on June 4. Both Bungie and the Destiny 2 community hope that The Final Shape can help the game rebound from dwindling player numbers. The expansion was originally meant to launch in February before undergoing significant delays and is Destiny 2's first expansion since Lightfall in February 2023. Despite troubling times recently, it seems that Destiny fans now have some optimistic news to enjoy.
On February 27, Reddit user 32638272187 posted to the Destiny2Leaks subreddit and shared accurate details regarding Destiny 2's newly announced subclass. The user went on to explain that Destiny 3 is in development under the codename Payback. One of the game's biggest changes is apparently the lack of classes, instead allowing characters to spec into any ability. However, the Reddit user admitted that this information could be outdated since it was apparently given to them by former Bungie employees.
The possibility of Bungie working on Destiny 3 was further supported in the studio's recent stream when Creative Director Luke Smith said The Final Shape is «not the end of Destiny 2, and it’s definitely not the end of Destiny,» before teasing, «we’re going to tell you what’s coming next to Destiny 2 and beyond» at some point in the future. A release date for the still unconfirmed Destiny 3 is likely at least a couple of years out, seeing Bungie has to focus on another ambitious project as well.
