Avowed has been delayed until early 2025

Microsoft has announced that Xbox console exclusive Avowed has been delayed until early next year.

Although an official release date had yet to be confirmed, Xbox had planned a 2024 release for the game, with a blog post by developer Obsidian seemingly (accidentally) confirming a November 12 release before it was removed.

However, a message posted by the official Xbox account on X has confirmed that the game will now release on February 18, 2025.

Accompanied with an imagine showing the upcoming first-party Xbox games, the message reads: “So many games coming! As such, we’re moving Avowed to February 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room.

“Stay tuned for more from our games across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox Game Studios at Gamescom, including our August 23 livestream for a look at Avowed.”

The news means that the only remaining Xbox console exclusive games planned for the end of 2024 are Age of Mythology Retold (which is out on September 4), Microsoft Flight SImulator 2024 (November 19), Towerborne (2024 TBC) and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024 TBC).

Avowed was announced in July 2020 as a first-person fantasy action RPG set in the world of Eora, which was originally introduced in Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity series.

Avowed’s director Carrie Patel says the game will be similar in length to Obsidian’s previous game The Outer Worlds.

“The best comparison for Avowed in terms of scope is The Outer Worlds,” Patel told Game Informer in June.

“Players can expect a roughly similar experience, just like The Outer Worlds, depending on what kind of difficulty they play on, and how thoroughly they explore and invest inside content, versus just sticking to the main crit path missions.”
