The newest big crossover for pairs the collectible card game with the series, but there's a major reason why the collaboration might not be everything that it could be. Although there was a time when the fantasy CCG teaming up with a pulp history video game series might have seemed like a pipe dream, the brand has made IP crossovers a regular thing. From to an crossover, there's been something for just about everyone, but even fans might not love the newest venture.

's new products are set to hit shelves on July 5, 2024, several months after the release of The new cards will be sold in several different purchase options, with a ready-to-play Starter Kit releasing alongside Beyond Boosters, Collector Boosters, and an Bundle that includes a variety of goodies alongside boosters. The Beyond Boosters are a unique new addition to the line, and they unfortunately provide some significant baggage weighing down the launch.

The big problem with the Beyond Boosters for lies in their basic value proposition. Each of these packs contains only seven cards, and preorder prices for booster boxes indicate a value of 6-7 dollars per pack. Asking nearly a dollar per card is a pretty intense demand, and it's one that more or less repeats a mistake that publisher Wizards of the Coast already made in recent history.

's last ill-fated attempt at a small booster size came in the form of Epilogue Boosters for , a micro set in 2023. This example was more extreme, slashing the count all the way to 5 cards alongside Collector Boosters that featured 6. Although the small size of the packs was intended to reduce the prevalence of dupes in a set that didn't feature many cards to begin with, it's a move that obviously went over poorly, and plans for a similar release attached to ended up being scrapped.
