Xbox’s Sea of Thieves was PS5’s most downloaded game in May

Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves was the most downloaded PlayStation 5 game in both the US and Europe last month.

That’s according to Sony, which has published monthly top 20 charts for PS5 and PS4 in both regions on the PlayStation Blog.

While it already had a strong foothold on rival platforms thanks to perennial best-sellers Call of Duty and Minecraft, Xbox recently announced plans to bring additional titles to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, starting with Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves and Grounded.

Last month’s PS5 download charts in Europe and the US both included four Microsoft-owned games in the top 20.

In addition to chart-topper Seas of Thieves, Grounded, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Fallout 4 appeared on both lists.

Minecraft also topped the PS4 download charts in both Europe and the US in May.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has said he wouldn’t ever want to rule out any game coming to another platform, and it was recently claimed that Xbox is considering bringing a newly remastered version of Halo Combat Evolved to PlayStation.

Xbox has also reportedly weighed up the idea of releasing Gears of War, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Starfield and Indiana Jones for rival consoles.

At Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft announced Doom: The Dark Ages for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5.
