Xbox Announces Final Fantasy 14 Open Beta, But Then Backtracks

A new Xbox Wire post announced that the Final Fantasy 14 open beta for Xbox Series X|S is live, but Xbox quickly backtracked and provided some clarification. The Final Fantasy 14 open beta is not ready yet for Xbox, as the company reveals that an error was made while sharing the news.

Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2023 was a memorable event this past July, with the announcement of the Xbox Series X|S version and the new Dawntrail expansion taking fans by surprise. At the time, Xbox and Square Enix revealed their plans to release the new Xbox version in spring 2024 with cross-play, allowing Xbox fans to play in one shared ecosystem with PlayStation and PC players. An open beta for the Xbox version was also confirmed at last year's event. During Fan Festival 2024 Tokyo, game producer Naoki Yoshida announced that the development team is planning to launch the open b''eta in February.

A new Xbox Wire post covering the supposed launch of the Final Fantasy 14 open beta was taken down just one hour after it was published, according to IGN. After the post was taken down, the official Xbox Wire Twitter account revealed that it had incorrectly posted news about the Final Fantasy 14 open beta. Xbox Wire promises a «follow-up» with the correct release date coming at a later date. The team at Xbox Wire also apologized for any confusion caused by the post, as speculation regarding a release date for the open beta picked up on Twitter.

Before its removal, the Xbox Wire post revealed that Final Fantasy 14 would support up to 4K on Xbox Series X. Details regarding performance settings and the game's resolution on Xbox Series S were not revealed, however. Similarly to Final Fantasy 14's PS5 beta from 2021, Xbox gamers may carry over their progress from the open beta to the full release once available this spring.

Although the error caused some disappointment for Xbox fans, many others on social media are still excited about the upcoming Xbox Series X|S version. The Final Fantasy 14 open
