Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will Have an Ambiguous Ending; Remaking FFVI Could Take a Very Long Time

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature an ambiguous ending that will keep players wondering about the third and final part of the trilogy, according to the game's producer.

Speaking in a new interview with Julien Chièze, Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the upcoming second part of the remake project and their goals. By remaking the seventh entry in the series as a new game that wasn't like the original, they wanted players already familiar with the original to be curious whether the story would change or not. As such, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature an ambiguous ending, much like the ending of Remake, that will keep fans wondering about how things will develop in the third and final entry in the trilogy.

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Producer also discussed a potential remake of Final Fantasy VI. Remaking the seventh entry in the series, so far, took ten years, and remaking its predecessor would take double the time, considering how many characters are there. Still, there are many at Square Enix who would like to remake the game, but nothing can be confirmed about this project at the time.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PlayStation 5 on February 29th. The game will be a temporary PS5 exclusive, so there's no doubt the game will eventually release at least on PC some time after it makes its debut on Sony's current generation console.
