What Is Weapon Proficiency In The First Descendant?

Similar to character levels in , every weapon you use has a Proficiency Level you can improve through repeated use. Taking down enemies with a particular weapon will cause your expertise with it to grow as you complete various missions. This will eventually give you access to more upgrades for your favorite weapons alongside other improvements.

Whether you're using a normal or ultimate version of a weapon, you have a Proficiency Level that starts at Level 1 and maxes out at Level 40. You gain Proficiency Levels by taking down enemies during missions, so this score improves steadily as you continuously tackle quests. Sticking to your best weapons will give you the most opportunities to level them up as you face tougher enemies and bosses.

One of the strongest machine guns in The First Descendant that you can get is the Tamer, a weapon with great stats geared toward overwhelming offense.

Leveling up a weapon's Proficiency will give you a greater Module Capacity Limit for that weapon, giving you more room for enhancement items on a particular tool. Modules in come in all shapes and sizes, granting passive bonuses to your favorite firearms. These can range from Firearm Attack stat buffs to shifts in your weapon's damage type to target specific enemy weaknesses.

More upgrades on a weapon give you stronger customization options for a character build, which can be useful as you unlock harder difficulties for missions. Increasing a weapon's Proficiency Level will also give you a small amount of Mastery Rank XP, giving you new benefits to use in a build as well. However, this only applies for the first time you gain XP with a weapon, making it a limited boost gained with new equipment.

Some Mastery Rank benefits include another boost to your weapon's Module Capacity Limit, which stacks with the bonus provided by the increases to a gun's Proficiency Level.
