Warner Bros. has acquired MultiVersus studio Player First Games

Warner Bros. Games has acquired Player First Games, the studio behind free-to-play platform fighter MultiVersus, for an undisclosed sum.

Following the acquisition, the Los Angeles-based studio will continue to be run by co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White.

Player First Games head and MultiVersus director Huynh, and head of technology White, will report to Carlos Barbosa, vice president and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego.

The San Diego studio, which is currently providing production support and live management for MultiVersus, was established in 2019 and is focused on the creation of free-to-play, cross-platform titles.

“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games,” said Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad. “The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” said Huynh. “We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”

Samurai Jack will join MultiVersus when Season 2 launches on July 23.

Ranked mode will be added to the game too, giving players the opportunity to participate in 1v1 and 2v2 matches while competing for leaderboard points to earn exclusive rank-based cosmetic rewards.

Season 2 will also include the Water Tower, a new map where players can battle on the iconic Warner Bros. Water Tower.
