Unexpected Red Dead Redemption 2 Update Sparks Port Rumors

has received an unexpected update with several new improvements, with fans speculating a current-gen port could be on the way. Rockstar's western title was released in 2018 to near-universal acclaim, sporting impressive visuals and a rich open world on last-gen hardware, and while the game is backwards-compatible on current-gen, fans have wondered if it will get a full upgrade patch like so many other titles this generation, or even a re-release like , but this never seemed to materialize as Rockstar pulled most of its resources to work on the upcoming instead.

Many thought this also meant Rockstar wouldn't be updating, so it was a surprise when the new 1.32 update was released on March 19. According to Rockstar's patch notes, a lot of the updates were for general stability and improvements, including fixing the infamous glitch in which players could get stuck when entering a stable, or unable to summon horses and wagons. It's some of the performance amendments for PC that sparked speculation, however.

The PC version of is finally receiving HDR10+ support, which has led to some speculation that such a feature could be included in a new port of the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. The PC patch will automatically set game graphics in HDR for HDR10+ GAMING displays on compatible graphics cards and monitors connected via HDMI.

High Dynamic Range is already on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, although there are still improvements to be made. ’s original HDR seemed to be limited to just raising the baseline brightness of the whole image, rather than actually widening the image’s light range as HDR should. An update did add «Cinematic» and «Game» HDR styles, but it looks like the new 1.32 update will finally be giving the title proper High Dynamic Range support on PC.

Any update at all for is surprising at this point considering the focus is on, so the speculation of a current-gen port isn't completely unfounded, especially if Rockstar wants to release something in
