Marathon development is reportedly facing trouble at Bungie: "There's a reason that it was planned for this year and slipped a whole year"

Sony says the 220 layoffs at Bungie were made in the name of—you guessed it—things like 'portfolio optimization' and enhancing 'the efficiency of the business'

Post-layoff justifications are fast becoming their own brand of technobabble. In case you're out of the loop, Bungie laid off 220 employees late last month due to «rising costs of development», «economic conditions», and all the things you're used to hearing by now.

Bungie owner Sony responds to the Destiny 2 studio's massive layoffs in the most corporate owner way possible: "We have to enhance the efficiency of the business"

A week on from the mass layoffs at Destiny 2 developer Bungie, Sony Interactive Entertainment's chairman has pointed to "efficiency" and "portfolio optimization" as the reasoning behind 17% of the studio's staff being laid off.

Bungie admits Destiny 2's new Pathfinder system isn't working "as we expected," gives out over 3,000 Bright Dust as "a make good to get folks caught up"

Destiny 2: The Final Shape was a great expansion that quietly made a few perplexing additions in-between mostly great ones, with the new Pathfinder reward system being one of the more confounding. Obtuse, buried in menus, and seemingly featuring objectives chosen by throwing darts at a wall of numbers, the Pathfinder could lead to wild swings in reward cadence, especially compared to previous pursuits. Bungie says Pathfinder has ended up unexpectedly stingy on Bright Dust in particular, the free currency used to purchase some Eververse shop items, so it's giving out a whole bunch of the stuff for free for the next nine weeks.
