Three Destiny 2 expansions are free to play ahead of The Final Shape’s release

A trio of Destiny 2 expansions have been made free to play in the run-up to The Final Shape’s release next month.

From today until June 3, all players can access The Witch Queen, Beyond Light and Shadowkeep expansions, plus the past four Seasons of content for the game.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can also access the current Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, during this same time period, as part of May’s Essential games, which launched on Tuesday.

Following a delay, Destiny 2: The Final Shape will be released on June 4.

“The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together,“ according to Bungie.

“In The Final Shape, Guardians will pursue the Witness into the Pale Heart of the Traveler, rally the Vanguard, and seek to end the War of Light and Darkness.”

Following declining Destiny 2 player numbers and layoffs at Bungie, the studio reportedly has a lot riding on The Final Shape.

It was claimed in December that Bungie’s position as an independent subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment was under threat.

IGN reported that Bungie’s current board structure is contingent on it hitting certain financial goals, and that if it fails to do so Sony could choose to dissolve the board and take full control.

Destiny executive creative director Luke Smith recently teased plans for the future of the franchise beyond Destiny 2 during a Final Shape gameplay preview.
