The best single-player games

It’s never been a better time to be a multiplayer gamer, with fantastic titles such as Fortnite, GTA Online, and Call of Duty: Warzone taking the industry by storm. However, the same can be said about single-player experiences, especially in recent years thanks to the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Dedicated single-player games are some of the richest, most beloved experiences in the medium, and in this list, we’ll go through the very best. These are the best single-player games.

God of War Ragnarök

94 % 4/5 M Platforms PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 Genre Hack and slash/Beat 'em up, Adventure Developer SIE Santa Monica Studio Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment Release November 09, 2022 <div data-cloudcity="" data-type=«button» data-pid=«B8njJhp4ZG» data-limit=«1» data-cta_pattern="$%price %merchant" id=«dtcc-B8njJhp4ZG»> There are few games with the impact of 2018’s God of War reboot, so it’s understandable to assume that a sequel couldn’t possibly meet the same level of intensity. However, Santa Monica Studio rose to the occasion with a follow-up outing, God of War Ragnarok, continuing the redemption story of Kratos, one of gaming’s most beloved anti-heroes. It expands upon his troubled past while looking even further into the mind of his teenage son, Atreus, as the two are set on conflicted paths in their quest to take down the deceitful Odin. This bigger, bolder sequel maintains the first game’s epic combat while giving players even more to see and do by using Metroidvania-esque game design that requires equal parts strategy, exploration, and patience. If you’ve got the 30 or so hours it takes to see this story through to its conclusion, don’t be surprised if you’re left weeping and cheering by the end.
