Tekken 8 Update Adds Eddy Gordo, Fixes, and Controversial New Feature

Bandai Namco's latest Tekken 8 update has stirred up a storm with the introduction of Eddy Gordo, game fixes, and a highly controversial battle pass. This new feature, now part of the $70-priced Tekken 8alongside the season pass and microtransactions, has sparked significant backlash.

Before Tekken 8 officially launched, Bandai Namco released a trailer announcing Eddy Gordo, the game's first DLC character. Eddy Gordo is one of the four character who will be added in the first year of Tekken 8's character pass. The capoeira martial artist has been around since Tekken 3, but this is the first time he hasn't been part of the base game roster.

The new Tekken 8 update is now available on all platforms. Players who bought the Playable Character Year 1 Pass have 72-hour early access to Eddy Gordo, while those who purchased him separately must wait until April 4. The patch also fixes various bugs and the behavior of some characters' moves. Plus, it adds the controversial Tekken 8 battle pass to the Tekken Shop.

The public had mixed feelings when Tekken 8 announced it would have microtransactions. To address concerns, the developers and director Katsuhiro Harada explained why they added microtransactions to Tekken 8, stating that they would be used to continuously improve the game. The Tekken Shop has paid and free items, all of which consist of costumes for characters or avatars.

However, Bandai Namco then announced Tekken Fight Pass, further intensifying the controversy. If some players were already unhappy with Tekken 8 microtransactions, the feeling was heightened with the release of a battle pass.
