Tekken 8 is Off to a Strong Start on Steam

Tekken 8 is off to a solid start on Steam, as it has surpassed the previous game's concurrent player count on the platform. Tekken 8 is the eighth mainline game in the long-running fighting game franchise, being touted as the grand finale of the Mishima Family storyline. A number of impressive fighting games were released in 2023, with major releases like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 being praised by fans and critics alike. With that in mind, Tekken 8 had a lot to live up to, and fortunately it seems to be doing just that.

Despite the pressure from competing fighting games, Tekken 8 remained one of 2024's most highly-anticipated releases, with fans excited to play as many of the characters on its roster or wanting to see how the fated confrontation between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima would unfold in the game's story mode. SteamDB's latest charts show that Tekken 8 has managed to hit almost 50,000 concurrent players on Steam, reaching this number about an hour after the game was released on the platform. When comparing this figure to Tekken 7's numbers, it's clear that it has blown the previous franchise release out of the water.

For reference, Tekken 7's concurrent player peak was nearly 19,000 players, which was around the time the game launched on Steam in June, which is a difference of a little over 31,000 players between the two games. Tekken 8's high numbers are likely due to how Tekken's popularity has grown in the last few years, along with strong marketing from Bandai Namco for the eighth game, which has seen glowing reviews for Tekken 8.

Based on the data from SteamDB, Tekken 8's concurrent player count peak has surpassed other fighting
