Take-Two still won’t put AAA games on subscription services on day one at launch, CEO says

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says his company still has no plans to release its triple-A titles on subscription services on their day of release.

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Zelnick said he believes that Microsoft‘s decision to make Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 available on Xbox Game Pass on the day of release will boost subscription numbers for the service.

However, he also stressed it wouldn’t affect Take-Two’s policy on not putting its bigger-budget games on Game Pass or PS Plus on day one.

“I think that offering a frontline title with a premium price in a subscription service, day and date, will push consumers to that subscription service for at least a period of time,” Zelnick conceded.

However, when asked whether it would change how Take-Two views putting day one games on subscription services, he replied: “No, it won’t affect our decisions. Because our decisions are rational.”

Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC, and will be available on Xbox Games Pass Ultimate on day one.

Activision is planning a full Black Ops 6 multiplayer reveal at its annual Call of Duty Next event on August 28.

A Black Ops 6 beta will run from August 30 until September 4 on all platforms. It will be available to anybody who pre-orders the game or subscribes to select Game Pass plans.

A second beta weekend will then be available to all players from September 6-9.

Thefirst trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode was also released last week.
