Surprise Cyberpunk 2077 Update Is Breaking Players' Games

The latest update for may not fundamentally alter any aspects of the game but it is frustrating for certain players who prefer experiencing the narrative with the help of some third-party add-ons. Ever since CD Projekt Red released the highly-anticipated RPG in 2020 the studio has actively pushed out patches to fix what was widely considered to be an unfinished product due to the number of bugs and glitches that plagued the project. The most recent hotfix solves one very common issue but at the cost of installed mods.

Announced over on X (formerly Twitter), CD Projekt Red confirmed that it pushed out a patch to fix a bug that caused the game to crash if players used any ability or action that was assigned to a side button of a Razer mouse, warning that the hotfix may break players' installed mods, something that many users called out.

Several replies to the post have noted that is no longer playable, frustrating players who customize the game to their needs. There's currently no word on whether the developer will fix this new issue.

The community may be irked by their mods breaking due to the recent patch but it's worth recalling how much the game has improved since its disastrous launch in 2020. CD Projekt Red has actively committed itself to working on the RPG to ensure that it meets the standards players expected upon release and while it may still lack some promised features, the release of the 2.0 Update reworked so many systems that it ultimately felt like a new game. Beyond the gameplay refreshes, it also added plenty of new content for V to uncover during their journey through Night City.

Perhaps most impressive was the expansion that was released in late 2023, serving as the game's only paid DLC addition.
