Stardew Valley 1.6 update is nearing completion, says creator

Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone has updated fans on the progress of the game’s long-coming 1.6 update, claiming that it’s approaching completion.

In an update posted on X, Barone said that he was finished adding “major new content” to the update, which was first announced in 2022.

“1.6 ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned,” he wrote. “I’m done adding major new content to it now, though, and it’s in a bug-fixing and polishing phase until it’s ready for release. Thx for your patience. It’ll be fun to see everyone play it!”

Barone added that he believes 1.6 will “absolutely” release this year, and that it will likely come to PC first, “but I really really don’t want a big delay between PC and console/mobile”.

Originally, 1.6 was intended to be a “mostly modding-focused update” with a minimal amount of new game content, however it was confirmed last year that its scope had expanded.

Stardew Valley 1.6 will include a major new festival, two new mini-festivals, late-game content, new items and crafting recipes, 100+ new lines of dialogue, winter outfits for villagers, and support for 8-player multiplayer on PC.

Stardew Valley has sold over 10 million copies across all platforms.
