Ahead of its business update, Microsoft reportedly told staff ‘every screen is an Xbox’

Microsoft reportedly told employees that it views “every screen [as] an Xbox” ahead of a much-anticipated business update.

A recent internal town hall meeting – which has been reported on previously – reportedly saw Xbox president Sarah Bond proclaim that “every screen is an Xbox”, according to a new account by Inverse.

Bond is then said to have discussed Xbox’s strategy of existing on multiple kinds of devices and its greater ambitions of “becoming the number one cross-platform gaming company”.

To illustrate the idea of Xbox on every screen, Bond reportedly showed images of breakout Xbox and PC hit Palworld running on tablets, TV screens, monitors, and handheld devices.

“Internally, employees expressed surprise at seeing so much Palworld and joked about the possibility of an Xbox handheld, which has also been rumoured,” according to Inverse.

Microsoft’s gaming division will publish an Xbox business update today, February 15, via an Xbox podcast set to release at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm GMT.

The update was announced in response to reports claiming Xbox has decided to bring some of its first-party games to other console platforms, in a significant change from typical console strategy.

It has been claimed that Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the Gears of War franchise could be coming to PlayStation, in addition to previously rumoured Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves ports for Sony’s console and Nintendo Switch.

With speculation about a new strategy for the Xbox business mounting, Microsoft’s head of gaming, Phil Spencer, released a statement last Monday telling fans that more would become clear via official correspondence.

“We’re listening and we hear you,” Phil Spencer wrote on X. “We’ve been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned.”
