Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Rumored To Feature Upgraded ‘Pegasus’ Cores, But May Maintain Same CPU Cluster As Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch is yet to start, and we have already started stumbling across Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 rumors. Earlier, we reported that Qualcomm requested TSMC and Samsung for their 2nm chip samples, presumably for vetting purposes to see if one or both can be a fit for future cutting-edge chipset orders. Now, we have learned that while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 may share the same CPU cluster, the latter is said to feature new ‘Pegasus’ CPU cores.

Qualcomm to retain the same ‘Slice’ GPU architecture for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5; may stick with TSMC’s N3E process

The first tidbits surrounding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5’s CPU cluster were shared by @For_Ataraxia, who states that where the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will feature custom Phoenix cores, its successor should arrive with Pegasus cores, which, judging by the name change, will be better. However, both SoCs are said to retain the same ‘2 + 6’ CPU cluster, but Qualcomm will pursue an approach followed by MediaTek when it launched the Dimensity 9300.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s CPU configuration is said to comprise up of performance cores only, with an earlier rumor claiming that the SoC was tested with a 4.00GHz frequency. The clock speeds of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 were not shared in any rumor, though it is likely that Qualcomm will only use performance cores for this chipset too. There is another claim stating that both custom silicon will sport the same Slice GPU architecture.

However, it is unconfirmed whether the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s Adreno 830 will be re-purposed for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 or it will sport an entirely new graphics processor. One surprising aspect of this rumor is that the tipster mentions that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will take advantage of Samsung’s 2nm process, also known as SF2, but somehow, TSMC’s ‘N3E’ process will remain
