Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Rumored To Be Finalized In April, With 4+ GHz Clock Speeds, OC Variants Possible; New Adreno 830 GPU, AI, DSP Details Shared

Qualcomm is apparently on track to supply its phone partners with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 just in time for the company to make the flagship chipset’s announcement in October. The latest rumor doing the rounds claims that the SoC will be finalized in April, with samples expected to be shipped to OEMs by June. This should give companies sufficient time to ready their high-end smartphones for next year with Qualcomm’s first 3nm silicon. The rumor also dives into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 specifications, which we will discuss at length here.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to feature AI computational and DSP performance that is twice as fast as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, along with other details

Most of the details have been previously covered, but @negativeonehero provided a summary for those not keeping track. The information retrieved from Korean forum DC Inside says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s clock speeds are set at 4.00+ GHz, and there is a possibility that overclocked variants also materialize. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy will likely sport this slightly upgraded configuration, though the tipster does not mention this.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 was previously said to be tested at 4.00GHz, but despite being rumored to be mass produced on TSMC’s 3nm ‘N3E’ process, the latest update claims that the power consumption of the silicon is still relatively high. This high power draw could be due to the chipset being tested with no efficiency cores, as earlier, it was mentioned that only high-performance cores would be used. This kind of CPU cluster will deliver impressive multi-core performance but at the cost of spiked power consumption.

It is unclear if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will consume more wattage than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but the rumor does state that the upcoming chipset’s AI and DSP computational performance will be nearly twice as much
