Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Will Only Run At “Cinematic” 30 FPS on Xbox Series X|S

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II will only run at 30 frames per second on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Ninja Theory confirmed today.

Speaking with German publication GamePro, the game's VFX director Mark Slater-Tunstill confirmed the game will only run at 30 frames per second and with dynamic resolution scaling on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. While this is extremely disappointing, the 30 FPS cap seems to be the price to pay for the game's stunning visuals, although Slater-Tunstill feels it will make the experience more cinematic. According to GamePro, however, this may not be a huge issue for the game, given its slow and weighty gameplay.

Speaking with IGN, the Senua's Saga: Hellblade II also commented on the Unreal Engine 5, saying that it is amazing and that it has allowed the team to create new narrative elements, new special effects, and more. The real-time nature of all the lighting also made it possible for a lot of the special effects to be lit, making everything in a scene fit together much more nicely than in the past. The switch to Unreal Engine 5 also allowed for a more realistic rendering of physical props, outfits, and so on.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II launches on May 21st on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide.
