Sea of Thieves Releases Important New Update

Sea of Thieves has received a new update that introduces Epic Games' Easy Anti-Cheat, a solo mode for those without a Game Pass subscription, and more. This marks one of Sea of Thieves' final updates before its PlayStation 5 release on April 30.

Earlier in March,Sea of Thieves became one of the most pre-ordered games on PlayStation's store as excitement continues to build among Sony fans, who will soon get to dive into developer Rare's unique pirate adventure game. Sea of Thieves' PS5 edition will feature crossplay just like the Xbox and PC versions do, and the approaching release will likely provide a significant boost to Sea of Thieves' player population.

As Rare prepares forSea of Thieves' PS5 launch, it released a new update for the game. The update's most notable addition is Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat, which comes after a previous announcement that a new Sea of Thieves anti-cheat was finally on the way. EAC is used in games like Fortnite and Apex Legends and will regularly receive updates to continue countering cheat developers. Also, the new update made the Safer Seas solo mode available to Sea of Thieves owners who don't have a Game Pass subscription.

The update makes a small change to Sea of Thieves' Adventures by removing its tab in the quick menu, which Rare says should create a more streamlined experience. Additionally, players now see a Message of the Day upon launching Sea of Thieves, which highlights new features, upcoming content, or other news. The update's download size comes in at 35 to 45 GB on Xbox consoles, 4 GB on Steam, and 100 GB on the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft Store owners shouldn't have to deal with massive updates for much longer. Sea of Thieves implemented Xbox's newest Game Development Kit last month, which set the stage for smaller updates in the future. Rare says the reduced download sizes should begin to materialize with the next update.

The new patch also refreshes Sea of Thieves' Emporium by adding new items like the Stone Islehopper
