Rise of the Ronin – Are there Multiple Endings and How do You Unlock Them?
Rise of the Ronin is the latest joint from Team Ninja, and unlike some of their past efforts, the game is surprisingly story-heavy. There are also a number of moments when you’ll be presented with important decisions to make, which begs the question – are their multiple endings? And how does one unlock them all? Scroll on down for the full lowdown on how RotR's story works…

Are there multiple endings in Rise of the Ronin?
The answer is yes, but not as many as you might think. While Rise of the Ronin will present you with decisions on a fairly regular basis, they only really affect things personal to your character, such as your allies and available missions. So, for instance, you may choose to spare the life of a bandit chief early in the game, which will result in them turning up later and possibly becoming an ally. There’s also a faction system where you can choose to be pro or anti-Shogunate, which will allow you to embark on certain faction-specific missions.
That said, the overall sweep of Rise of the Ronin’s story doesn’t change (it’s loosely based on real history after all) with there, ultimately, being only two alternate endings to the game.
How to determine your ending
Right near the end of the game, you’ll be given the choice of either killing or sparing your “Blade Twin.” This determines what ending you get.
Do I have to play through the game again to see the other ending?
Nope. Rise of the Ronin’s “Soul Testimony” mechanic basically allows you to replay any mission, change your decisions, and see what the outcome is. This includes the final ending-determining mission.
And there we go – a bit of the mystery taken out of RotR’s story and endings.
