Resident Evil Series Path Tracing Mod Is Now Available for Download

The path tracing mod released last week for Dragon's Dogma 2 is now compatible with all Resident Evil games powered by the RE Engine, enhancing the games' visuals considerably.

The mod developed by EXXXcellent has now been integrated in the latest build of the REFramework by Praydog, introducing RTGI/AO and Reflections in the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, 7 and Village, and RT Reflections only in the remake of the fourth entry in the series released last year. While the lack of denoising definitely impacts visual quality, the path tracing mod does enhance visuals in most scenarios, as highlighted in the comparison screenshots shared by JoHien on the PC Gaming subreddit.

It has been some time since CAPCOM talked about the Resident Evil series, but there's little doubt that a new entry in the series is in the works. According to a well-known insider, the ninth entry in the series will experiment with open-world mechanics, but it may be some time until we learn more about it, as the game has been recently delayed internally. Another entry in the series could be revealed before it as well.

Resident Evil 4 was the ultimate test of CAPCOM remake skills, and unfortunately, they buckled a bit under the pressure. The game suffers from minor mechanical issues and doesn’t reinvent or elevate the original material as boldly as some might have hoped it would. That said, CAPCOM hasn’t broken anything either as this is still a fun, inventive thrill ride that has been brought up to modern technical standards in striking fashion.
