Redfall will get no further updates, players who paid for DLC will get ‘make good offers’

Redfall will receive no further updates, as Microsoft “ends all development” on the game.

In an email to staff announcing that Redfall developer Arkane Austin will be closed, Microsoft announced that the studio’s troubled vampire shooter will receive no further updates.

“Redfall’s previous update will be its last as we end all development on the game,” reads an internal email.

“The game and its servers will remain online for players to enjoy and we will provide make-good offers to players who purchased the Hero DLC.”

The DLC referred to in the email was included in the $99.99 Bite Back Edition of the game. This included the ‘Hero Pass’, which was originally promised to include two extra heroes. That content has now been cancelled.

The game was released on May 1, 2023. The last mention of the content was made in patch notes for the game posted in November which read: “We’re continuing development of The Hero Pass and we’re excited to share more about Redfall’s new heroes and other updates later next year.”

It is currently unknown what the “make-good offers” to players will be.

In June 2023, Xbox Game Studios boss Matt Booty told Axios that there were no plans to close the Texas-based studio and that support for the game would continue.

“That is the plan right now,” he said at the time. “They are hard at work on updates and continued content for Redfall.”

Booty claimed Redfall was getting “good play” in Xbox Game Pass. “It was a miss, but how much of a miss? I want to support them to be able to keep working to deliver the game they had in mind.”

“I feel accountable that we could have done a better job with Arkane,” Booty added, echoing comments from Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

Redfall was the first major exclusive released by Bethesda under the Microsoft umbrella. The game was met with poor reviews, garnering aggregate scores of 56 (Xbox Series X/S) and 53 (PC) on Metacritic.
