Some of 's players may be entitled to some compensation after Microsoft's shocking closure of four Bethesda studios. On May 7, Microsoft closed and developer Tango Gameworks, 's Alpha Dog Games, and and 's Arkane Austin, and announced that Roundhouse Games would be absorbed into 's ZeniMax Online Studios.
The closure of Arkane Austin earlier this year came as a very unhappy surprise, felt keenly by fans of the immersive sim genre. But in a new interview with PC Gamer, Arkane founder Raphael Colantonio, who left the company in 2017, said that while the shutdown is sad, it also represents an opportunity for a renewal of the genre.
Raphael Colantonio wants you to imagine a spectrum. On its left you have Dishonored, the series he co-created with fellow immersive sim veteran Harvey Smith. It's relatively linear and tightly mission-based; once you've finished with a level there's no going back. On the right there's Fallout: New Vegas—a rambling open world. 2017's Prey is in the dead centre, open but dense, with some areas gated off until you have the equipment (or creativity) to get in.

But it's getting one final update before the end comes, which among other things will include a long-awaited offline mode.
