Pokémon’s sleep tracking app has generated $100m in a year

Pokémon’s sleep tracking app, Pokémon Sleep, has reportedly cleared $100 million in revenue, one week before its first anniversary.

According to AppMagic data published by Pocket Gamer, Pokémon Sleep’s revenue came predominantly from Japanese users, who spent $73 million since its July 17, 2023 launch.

US users contributed another $15 million, ahead of Taiwan’s $4 million, according to the data.

In terms of downloads, Sleep has reached 9.8 million users, it’s claimed, 44% of whom are based in Japan, followed by 17% in the US and 7% in Taiwan.

Pokémon Sleep allows players to catch Pokémon based on how they sleep. The game will track up to two sleeping sessions per day.

Players are  judged based on the amount of sleep they get, which will then contribute to a sleep score.

This sleep score is then added to a score earned from a Snorlax minigame, which players can pay to upgrade. There is also a premium pass available for purchase, which offers various benefits.

According to The Pokémon Company‘s COO Takato Utsunomiya, “The idea behind Pokemon Sleep is to be a game that makes you look forward to waking up in the morning”.
