Pokemon GO Making Controversial Change That Impacts Android Users
Pokemon GO is going to change how Android users redeem codes in the augmented reality mobile game, forcing them to go to the Pokemon GO Web Store instead of letting them redeem through the app. While it may not be quite as popular as it was in 2016 or during the pandemic, Pokemon GO is still one of the biggest mobile games around.
There are various ways that Niantic keeps Pokemon GO players coming back to the game. The main way is through new content, like adding new Pokemon for players to catch or introducing fresh gameplay features to shake up the formula. Sometimes, players are able to get offer codes that they can redeem for free items in the game, which is yet another way to keep players returning to Pokemon GO on a regular basis.
Starting February 13, Pokemon GO players on Android will no longer be able to redeem codes directly through the app, but will instead have to go to the Pokemon GO Web Store. Niantic has said that it hopes this will be «an easy transition» for Pokemon GO players, but fans wasted little time expressing their frustration on social media. This makes redeeming Pokemon GO codes more inconvenient, and so many are not happy about this development. It's worth pointing out that iOS users have already had to do this, so soon the two versions of the game will function the same when it comes to code redemption.
Pokemon GO Android users may be upset about this development, but this is far from the first time that Niantic has made a controversial change to the game. Many will recall when Pokemon GO implemented restrictions on Remote Raid Passes, which greatly upset the community and caused some to say that they would boycott the game as a result. Niantic hasn't budged from its decision, though, and it's unlikely that it will change its mind in this case either. As to why Niantic is making this change, no explanation has been provided.
