How To Beat Giovanni In Pokémon GO (March 2024)

Once again, former Team Rocket leader Giovanni returns to in March 2024 with a new team for you to beat. This past Gym Leader challenges you once again, this time for a chance to capture the Legendary Pokémon Kyogre from the Hoenn region. Defeating this villain also allows you to advance your Rocket Special Research for additional rewards you won't want to miss.

You need to take down Giovanni's allies Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo in before you have a chance to battle his new team. Many battles against grunts will have prepared you for the kind of Pokémon most Team Rocket members use, but their leader's roster can be unexpected. Head to a Pokestop or Rocket Balloon once you get a Super Rocket Radar from your research to start Giovanni's fight.

Giovanni has five team members who follow a specific type, so you'll have to prepare for each Pokémon on his roster individually. The Team Rocket figurehead always sends out a Shadow Persian during the first wave and Shadow Kyogre during the third and final phase of the fight. However, during the second wave, he picks one of three possible Pokémon that can be tricky to predict in .

Similar to Giovanni's battle in February 2024, this fight will be determined by how well you can adjust to the second phase. Giovanni can throw out either a Shadow Garchomp, Shadow Rypherior, or Shadow Nidoking onto the battlefield against your Pokémon. These creatures may seem different, but they all share a type that gives them the same vulnerabilities you can exploit.
