Pokemon Fans Have Theory About Legends: Z-A's Setting

Some attentive fans have put forth a theory regarding the setting of the upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A, suggesting it will take place in the future instead of the past. Pokemon Legends: Z-A was first revealed at the Pokemon Day event this past February, and it is set to revisit the formula of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Back in 2022, Legends: Arceus was seen as a fresh and innovative take on the classic Pokemon-catching gameplay, and while little has been shown about Legends: Z-A, fans have already started theorizing about its plot points and where it will be set.

Unlike Legends: Arceus, which was set in a past version of the Sinnoh region, Legends: Z-A will be going back to the Kalos region, which was first introduced in the Pokemon X and Y 3DS games. This can be seen with the variety of Pokemon from those two games, as well as it specifically being set in a version of Lumiose City, a major capital of Kalos, being under urban redevelopment. While the previous Legends game was set in the past, there's a theory floating around that Legends: Z-A will be taking place in the future.

This theory was shared by Twitter user Mordecais_mons, based on a number of factors that connect Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (ORAS), X and Y, Scarlet and Violet, and Legends: Z-A. Specifically, he makes the connection to how Hoenn's Mauville City is named «Violet City» in French, which is connected to the future-focused plot seen in Pokemon Violet. On top of that, Mauville City underwent a major redevelopment plan in ORAS, where the city's gym leader and founder, Wattson, modeled the interior city after the design of Kalos' Lumiose City.
