Pokemon Fan Designs Mega Sudowoodo Inspired by Real-Life Tree

A Pokemon fan has recently designed a Mega Evolution for Sudowoodo inspired by a giant baobab tree. Mega Evolutions first appeared in the sixth generation Pokemon games, and have been inspiring fan art since then.

Sudowoodo is one of the most memorable critters from the second generation of Pokemon games. Despite looking like a tree, Sudowoodo is actually made of stone, and can originally be found blocking Route 36 in Pokemon Gold and Silver. By using an item called Squirtbottle, a player can get the monster out of the way, and have a unique chance to capture this Rock-type Pokemon.

Now, a prolific Pokemon fan called Matratzfratz on Reddit decided to share their latest creation: a Mega Evolution for Sudowoodo inspired by giant baobab trees. These endangered trees are very rare, and can only be found in Madagascar. Matratzfratz’s creation mimics the trees' distinctive look, taking the most iconic aspects of Sudowoodo, such as its face, colors, and leaf-inspired hands, and adding them to a torso that resembles the giant baobab tree.

Matratzfratz often shares Pokemon fan art with the community, and the artist has some pretty creative ideas when devising new spins on classic creatures. For instance, they designed a regional Oddish fan art just last month. In this new form, Oddish would become infected by leaf miners, which would grow as it evolves and completely take over the Pokemon in its final form.

Another of Matratzfratz’s designs that comes with a unique twist is the disrupted Kakuna evolution the fan made earlier this year. In this design, Matratzfratz made a Bug/Steel-type Kakuna with giant spikes that look very menacing and seem to be covered in blood.

Due to its unique shape, Sudowoodo is often featured in fan works made by other artists, too. An example of that would be the Water-type Sudowoodo created by a fan artist back in March.
