Pixel 9 Pro Fold Does Not Support Charging Through Pixel Stand 2 Due To The Position Of Its Coil, Rendering The Accessory Useless

Google's Pixel 9 series recently hit the shelves on August 22nd, and it's now focused on its foldable launch. While the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be released in the coming week, users are excited to get their hands on the new foldable. However, they should prepare ahead of time for the new model to not support charging with the Pixel Stand 2. The company has shared details on why the phone cannot be charged using the charging stand.

Google reveals that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports other wireless chargers but not the Pixel Stand 2

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold was announced at the Made by Google event in 2024 and has harnessed quite the attention for bringing a bigger and slimmer foldable display that the Tensor G4 processor powers. The new foldable device is available for pre-order and will be on shelves on September 4th.

Prior to its launch, Google let its users know that the Pixel Stand 2 could not be used when charging the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The second generation Pixel Stand came out in 2021 alongside the Pixel 6 series and is priced at $79. It is packed up with a 30W USB-C power adapter (PD 3.0 w/PPS) and also has a USB C-to-C cable that comes in the box. When it comes to other Pixel models, The Pixel Stand 2 goes up to 15W with the Pixel 9, 21W for the Pixel 9 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL is able to go up to 23W charging.

Google recently updated its support document to state that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports other wireless charging but not the Pixel Stand 2. In explaining its reason for this limitation, the company detailed that while the previous version's charging coil was more in the center and supported seamless wireless charging, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is not packed with the perfectly positioned charging spot, making it difficult to charge it wirelessly.
