Helldivers 2's ongoing galactic war has had its twists and turns, its glorious victories and shameful defeats, but now developer Arrowhead has a new dichotomy for us. A new major order offers the Helldivers a simple, strategic choice: unlock a powerful new strategem, or save a planet-load of very ill children.
Starship Troopers: Extermination has been in early access since last year and, buoyed by the success of Sony's similarly themed Helldivers 2, is coming in hot for a full October launch that among other things boasts the return of Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico. Rico is the beating heart of the original movie's ensemble cast, has many of the finest lines, and is kind of the audience's anchor as director Paul Verhoeven blasts off on an excoriating drive-by about social control, war from the space grunt perspective, and man's inhumanity to… well, everything.
Helldivers 2 has been one of 2024's big hits, and found a huge audience ready to spread managed democracy across the galaxy. The game's setting has one inspiration above all others: Paul Verhoeven's film Starship Troopers, loosely based on the Robert Heinlein novel. The game is packed with references and tributes, and sparked some renewed interest in the movie, with even Casper Van Dien (main character Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers) calling it "really quite wonderful."
That's '83 as in «1983», and welcome to an alternative universe where the Cold War turned hot. A new multiplayer FPS from Blue Dot Games where the guiding principle is «accessible realism» around a core of tactical precision combat, 83's most ambitious element might be the number of players: Up to 100 per match. The studio behind the game's composed of longterm veterans from series including Red Orchestra, Rising Storm and Squad, and the game is already highly wishlisted on Steam.

Counter-Strike pro player Adam "nbgee12" Zanzoul has been barred from IEM Dallas 2024 and permabanned from the FACEIT platform after being caught stealing SSDs from his fellow competitors (as first reported by Dust 2). Almost unbelievably, this comes around two months after the ESL had commuted a previous 100 year-ban imposed on Zanzoul thanks to new policies and, to stretch credulity even further, Zanzoul says it's all down to the demon weed.
