Upcoming life sim Inzoi launched a demo for its Inzoi Character Studio last night and, surprising no one, Sims fans who've been starved for any kind of alternative to the series that's been uncontested in the space for decades are flocking to it—to the tune of 18,000 concurrent players and rising. Not just for a change of pace either, because Inzoi really is gorgeous.
Hungry as life sim players are for a game to take on The Sims, it's been a bit difficult to keep track of the details on each of the in-development competitors. Inzoi, hands down the prettiest of the bunch, showed off a new gameplay trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live but it didn't feel like there was a lot to learn from that quick look. The more useful info is actually coming from content creators who Krafton partnered with this week to post sponsored videos sharing their play time with a build of the game.
I've heard of riding outfits and hunting costumes and other such purpose-specific wardrobes of history. But the Victorians have nothing on Infinity Nikki, the open world dress-up adventure game where you'll unlock a floating outfit, gliding outfit (apparently not the same thing), shrinking outfit, fishing outfits, and more. Nikki showed up at Gamescom Opening Night Live today with a new trailer and also just opened registration for its closed beta.
Ever since seeing its adorable castle doodling clips on social media I've been desperate for Tiny Glade. The little laid back building game has caught a lot of cozy gaming fans that way, shooting up way higher on the list of most wishlisted Steam games (spot 19 as of writing) than I'm used to seeing cozy games attain. It won't have to stay on our wishlists much longer now because Pounce Light has just announced it will launch on September 23.
Of the handful of Sims-like life sims on the horizon, Inzoi may be the most hotly anticipated. Not only is it likely coming soonest, but it's gorgeous too. We'll all get our hands on its prettiest features next week when Inzoi's character creator gets a free demo starting on August 20.
Leading up to the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard this autumn, BioWare continues to share details about all the things that are changing in the fourth game of the series. One very obvious departure is its extremely action-forward combat, subject of plenty of debate among fans (including my own group chats). In particular, Veilguard will narrow the focus of combat so that we'll only have direct control of our player character Rook—a change that was made, BioWare says, because the faster pace of combat made it difficult for players to manage the full party.
I'm starting to think I made a mistake by missing the boat on playing Once Human. Because despite its shooter-focused facade, it sure seems like everyone is just spending all their time building houses in this free-to-play survival game. Dammit, I love building houses.
When everyone said they wanted Sims to have more interesting lives, I don't think any of us meant incest. Nor did EA intend it, so a Sims 4 patch yesterday has addressed the sudden tendency for Sims to try pursuing a romance with their relations.
