Star Wars Outlaws' maps won't initially be blanketed in Ubisoft's infamous map icons because your character Kay 'hasn't seen the galaxy' and 'doesn't know everything' yet

When we got our hands on Star Wars Outlaws last month, our first impression was that it's playing things too safe. We didn't get to see its open world, but we did notice a lot of mechanics borrowed from other Ubisoft games, from Watch Dogs to Assassin's Creed. It's not the size of the open world that counts, it's what's inside it—but I'll admit I've been curious to see how Ubisoft plans to tackle the open world maps for multiple Star Wars planets. This is a notoriously tough nut for space exploration games to crack. BioWare tried to make Mass Effect 1's barren planets more interesting in Andromeda, only to fill them with generic, cookie cutter quests that went over about as well as the facial animations. Bethesda justified Starfield's largely dull procedurally generated planets as realistic. What should we expect from Ubisoft, which has made some truly massive open world maps, bringing that scale to the whole galaxy?

Ubisoft has been taking strides to tweak how it creates open-world games, and that appears to be continuing with Star Wars Outlaws. will take players to never-before-seen places as Kay Vess, a thief living in the Outer Rim. It marks the first truly open-world entry in franchise history, promising a slew of different places for players to explore, and spoke with creative director Julian Gerighty to find out more.
